SEO expert in Sri Lanka

SEO Expert in Sri Lanka

Alston Antony has worked in search since 2010, runs 16 web properties of his own and publishes the raw platform exports behind every number he claims. This page sets out the evidence so you can judge it rather than take it on trust.

Who Alston Antony is

Alston Antony is an SEO consultant and search engine optimization specialist based in Colombo, and the founder of Maxinium. He has worked in search since 2010, when his first money online was a $15 cheque from a file-sharing platform, cashed at a bank branch that had never processed one before.

He is also Senior Digital Marketing Manager at Brainstorm Force, whose WordPress and AI software powers more than 7 million websites. That is the unusual half of the profile: very few people working in Sri Lankan search also spend their week inside a product at that scale, and very few people at that scale understand a market where a buyer researches in English, asks a relative in Sinhala and converts over WhatsApp.

Alongside both he operates 16 web properties of his own, four of them built specifically for the Sri Lankan market, and publishes the raw platform exports for six of them.

SEO expert, SEO specialist or SEO consultant?

These three titles get used interchangeably in Sri Lanka and mostly describe the same person. Where they differ is in what the person searching wants, so it is worth being explicit about which one you are actually looking for.

What you searchedWhat you usually wantWhat Alston does
SEO expert in Sri LankaSomeone senior enough to diagnose why the site is not ranking, and trusted enough that you can act on the answerDiagnosis first — we look at your site and your Search Console before any proposal, so the recommendation comes from your data rather than a template
SEO specialist in Sri LankaDepth in one discipline rather than a generalist who also does websites, social and adsSEO only. Maxinium dropped every other service on purpose, because judgement is what you are paying for
SEO consultant in Sri LankaAdvice and direction without handing over execution — a review, a second opinion, or training for your own teamSold as one-off engagements: strategy reviews, agency second opinions and in-house training
SEO consulting in Sri LankaAn ongoing advisory relationship rather than a projectA monthly retainer where the strategy is Alston’s and the execution can be yours, ours, or split

How to judge any SEO expert in Sri Lanka

SEO is unusually easy to fake. There is no licence, results take months to arrive, and by the time you can tell whether the work was any good you have paid for six months of it. The metrics are trivially manipulated too — rank for a term nobody searches, screenshot it, and the report looks excellent.

Four tests survive that problem. They are the tests this page is built to be measured against, and you should apply them to everyone on your shortlist, including us.

The testWhy it worksAlston
Has he ranked something he owns?Client work sits behind NDAs and screenshots are trivially faked. An owned property is checkable by anyone, and the downside was his.16 properties, 4 built for Sri Lanka, 6 documented with the raw exports attached
Will he show a Search Console export?A rank-tracker screenshot proves nothing. A dated platform export with the property, filter and window visible can be re-checked.Every case study publishes them; unmeasured surfaces are labelled “not audited”
Does he explain the reasoning?Tactics expire with each algorithm update. Judgement is what you are actually buying.Every recommendation comes with why that and not the alternative
Will he tell you no?Someone who never says “this will not work for you” is selling, not advising.Enquiries with no measurable search demand are declined and referred, sometimes toward paid ads

The evidence, in checkable form

These are not estimates or agency-reported figures. Each one is recomputed from a platform export published on the case studies, with the window, filter and methodology visible on the screenshot.

FigureWhat it measuresSource
302,037Times Microsoft Copilot cited an owned property inside an AI answerBing AI Performance export, 6-month windows
147,783Appearances inside Google AI features across the same propertiesSearch Console, since May 2026

#1Google position for “SEO Tamil”, and named inside its AI OverviewSEOTamil.com case study
74%Organic click growth on ZipWP from a zero baseline, with 28 keyword variations taken to #1Brainstorm Force, attributed

The two AI figures are different metrics over different windows and are never summed. ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity publish no per-answer export, so no citation count is claimed for them — they are marked not audited on every case study rather than implied.

Fifteen years in Sri Lankan search specifically

Experience in this market is not interchangeable with experience elsewhere. Global keyword tools report “0 searches” for terms that produce steady enquiries here, because Sri Lankan volumes fall below their rounding threshold — so anyone planning from tool estimates systematically under-invests in the terms that actually convert. Working from Search Console data instead is a habit you only build by operating here.

Four of the sixteen properties were built for Sri Lankan searchers and compete against Sri Lankan incumbents: MatchMaker.lk, which outranks the newspaper classified brands that owned matrimony for generations; MakeMoneyOnline.lk; WebHostingSriLanka.com.lk; and DigitalMarketingCourse.lk. Two of them are documented in full with the exports attached.

The MatchMaker.lk study also produced the single most useful finding for any Sri Lankan business: the Sinhala category term mangala yojana converts at 19.40% from position 4.63 — better than any English term on the property. Vernacular queries carry real commercial intent here, and almost nobody optimises for them.

Credentials and background

An MSc in Computer Software Engineering from the University of Greenwich, passed with distinction, on a dissertation building an SEO management system for beginners. Before that a BSc in IT at ESOFT in Sri Lanka, compressed from four years into two and a half alongside freelance client work. The engineering half is why technical SEO is the service least willing to be handed to anyone else.

Professional member of the Digital Marketing Association of Sri Lanka (DMASL) and of BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT in the United Kingdom. Ahrefs SEO certified, plus Semrush and HubSpot.

Teaching is not a side activity: 30,000+ students across 6 courses, 18,728 of them on Udemy, and 617 videos published to 643K+ views across English and Tamil channels. Being able to explain the reasoning is what separates an SEO specialist from a technician running a tool.

An expert, an agency or a freelancer?

These are genuinely different products and the right answer depends on what you already have in-house. Being honest about that is more useful than pretending one option wins every time.

If nobody on your side can implement recommendations, a retainer is cheaper than consulting even though the invoice is larger. We will say so on the first call rather than sell you the wrong shape.

Ways to work with Alston

SEO consulting in Sri Lanka does not have to mean a retainer. Some businesses just need someone senior to look at what is happening, say what is wrong, and leave.

  • An honest fit assessment. Send your site and the competitors beating you, and get a straight read on whether we can really help — at no cost, and with no obligation either way.
  • Strategy review. A read on your plan before you commit budget to it — usually the cheapest hour you will spend on search all year.
  • Second opinion. An independent assessment of the agency you are already paying, and whether the work being reported is the work being done.
  • In-house training. Structured teaching for a marketer already doing the work but guessing at the priorities.
  • Monthly retainer. Ongoing execution from LKR 20,000, itemised on the packages page.

English, Sinhala and Tamil

Tamil is handled directly — Alston publishes SEO training in Tamil at @digitalmarketingtamil and runs SEOTamil.com, which holds #1 in Google for its category term. Sinhala content is produced with native writers and reviewed in-house.

Most Sri Lankan businesses need English as the primary layer with Sinhala or Tamil as a secondary one. But if your customers search in Sinhala and you compete only in English, you are leaving the least contested rankings on the table — and the MatchMaker.lk data says those are often the ones that convert best.

What Alston is not

Maxinium is a small, founder-led operation. No 40-person content floor, no paid media, no website builds, and never twelve clients at once. If you need a full-service agency across five channels, this is the wrong shape and you will be told so on the first call.

There are also no rank guarantees. Google does not sell rankings, no search engine optimization expert controls the algorithm, and a guarantee is either meaningless small print or a promise to rank you for a term nobody searches. What is committed to is scope: exactly what gets done each month, reported against your own Search Console data so you can verify it independently.

Frequently asked questions

Who is the best SEO expert in Sri Lanka?

Nobody can hold that title as a matter of fact, so judge it on evidence instead of on the claim. The four tests worth applying are: has the person ranked properties they own, will they show you a raw Search Console export rather than a rank-tracker screenshot, do they explain the reasoning behind a recommendation, and will they tell you when SEO is the wrong spend. Alston Antony operates 16 web properties with 4 built for the Sri Lankan market, publishes the exports for six of them — 803 queries at an average top-3 position and 302,037 Bing Copilot citations — and declines work where the search demand is not there. Apply the same four tests to everyone else you are considering.

What does an SEO expert in Sri Lanka actually do?

Diagnoses why you are not ranking, then fixes it in the order that matters. In practice: a technical audit to clear whatever blocks crawling and indexing, keyword and SERP research grounded in your own Search Console data rather than tool estimates, on-page rebuilds of the pages already sitting on page two, then content, local citations and links until the site holds position. An expert is distinguished from a technician by the sequencing — knowing which of those to do first for your site is the entire job.

How much does an SEO consultant cost in Sri Lanka?

The first conversation costs nothing. Beyond that, consulting is priced per engagement — an audit, a strategy review or a training block — and ongoing execution is a monthly retainer from LKR 20,000, which is deliberately below the Colombo market rate of LKR 100,000–250,000 so Sri Lankan business owners can afford it. Everything is itemised on the packages page.

How do I find a good SEO consultant in Sri Lanka?

Shortlist three, then ask each the same four questions: what would you do first and why that rather than something else, can I see a raw Search Console export, who actually does the work, and what would make you tell me SEO is the wrong spend right now. A good SEO consultant in Sri Lanka answers all four without hedging. Anyone who leads with a package price before looking at your site is quoting a template.

Is Alston Antony an SEO specialist or a generalist?

A specialist, deliberately. Maxinium used to sell websites, social media, ads and SEO; it now sells SEO only. Narrowing the service list is what makes the judgement inside it worth paying for — every SEO engagement makes the next one faster, whereas a website build, a Facebook campaign and an SEO retainer in the same quarter teach you almost nothing transferable.

Can I hire Alston for a one-off consultation rather than a retainer?

Yes. Strategy reviews, second opinions on an agency you are already paying, and in-house training are all sold as one-off engagements. The audit itself is free. If nobody on your side can implement the recommendations, a retainer usually works out cheaper despite the larger invoice, and you will be told that rather than sold the consultation anyway.

Do you work with businesses outside Colombo?

Yes. Alston is based in Colombo and most clients are here, but the work is remote and there are clients in Kandy, Galle, Negombo and Jaffna. Location only changes the strategy when you are competing for local map-pack rankings — see the Colombo page and local SEO.

Do you work in Sinhala and Tamil?

Tamil directly — Alston publishes SEO training in Tamil and runs Tamil-language properties that rank #1 in Google. Sinhala content is produced with native writers and reviewed in-house. Vernacular queries are worth more than most Sri Lankan businesses assume: on MatchMaker.lk the Sinhala category term converts better than any English term on the site.

Can you train our in-house marketing team instead?

Yes, and for companies with someone capable already on staff it is often the best value available. Alston has taught over 30,000 students across 6 courses and publishes SEO training in both English and Tamil, so structured teaching is a core competence rather than a favour.

What guarantees do you give?

On rankings, none — and be wary of anyone who offers them, because Google does not sell rankings and no consultant controls the algorithm. What is guaranteed is scope: exactly what gets done each month, no lock-in contract with one month’s notice, your rate held for twelve months, and every account created in your name so you keep it if you leave.
